Victoria Park (維多利亞公園)
Victoria Park in Causeway Bay is large by Hong Kong standards (the largest park in downtown Hong Kong, in fact) and has a number of concrete soccer pitches, bowling greens, a swimming pool, bandstand, basketball courts, table tennis tables, fitness stations, children's playground, a model boat pool and a large grass lawn.
The Hong Kong Tennis Classic and Hong Kong Open tournaments are both held in the park. The former in January as a warm-up for the Australian Open and the latter in October. Victoria Park also contains a statue of Queen Victoria at the main entrance, after which the park is named.
Lively Victoria Park is known for its morning tai chi sessions and a colorful flower market during Chinese New Year.
The park has since become a hangout for Hong Kong's Indonesian community much as Statue Square serves the local Filipinos. The outdoor areas of Victoria Park are open 24 hours. Victoria Park was opened in 1957.
Hong Kong Park (香港公園)
Located in Central, Hong Kong Park is a tranquil retreat in the busy city center. It combines natural and artificial features, including waterfalls, ponds, gardens, and walking trails. The park also houses attractions like the Edward Youde Aviary, the Flagstaff House Museum of Tea Ware, and the Hong Kong Visual Arts Centre.
It is close to the Hong Kong Zoological and Botanical Gardens and the Peak Tram terminal in Central.
Kowloon Park (九龍公園)
Situated in Tsim Sha Tsui, Kowloon Park is a popular urban oasis. It offers a range of amenities, including lakes, gardens, a swimming pool, sports facilities, and a large aviary. The park is known for its beautiful Chinese garden, rose garden and the iconic "Avenue of Comic Stars," featuring statues of popular cartoon characters.
The park is at the junction of Nathan Road and Haiphong Road with Kowloon Mosque & Islamic Centre (Tel: 2724 0095) on its grounds and the busy Kowloon Park Swimming Complex (Tel: 2724 3577).
Formerly the site of the Whitfield Barracks of the British Army, the space also contains the former battery (Kowloon West II Battery) and the Hong Kong Heritage Discovery Centre.
Nan Lian Garden (南蓮園池)
Situated in Diamond Hill, Nan Lian Garden is a traditional Chinese garden renowned for its meticulous landscaping. It features serene ponds, bridges, pagodas, and a stunning wooden Tang-style pagoda called the Pavilion of Absolute Perfection. The garden provides a peaceful environment for visitors to relax and enjoy the harmony of nature. The garden opens daily from 7 am to 9 pm. Diamond Hill MTR station (on the Kwun Tong Line) is the nearest station (Exit C2).
Hong Kong Wetland Park (香港湿地公园)
Hong Kong Wetland Park in Tin Shui Wai is a unique ecological park that showcases the region's wetland ecosystem. It offers extensive boardwalks, bird-watching hides, interactive exhibitions, and educational facilities. Visitors can explore diverse habitats, observe wildlife, and learn about wetland conservation. The Hong Kong Wetland Park is made up of a 10,000m2 visitor centre, Wetland Interactive World, and a 60-hectare Wetland Reserve. To get there take the MTR Tuen Ma Line to Tin Shui Wai Station, then change to LRT 705 to Tin Sau Station (via tunnel) or Wetland Park Station to the Park.
Sai Kung East Country Park (西貢東郊野公園)
Sai Kung East Country Park in the northeastern part of Hong Kong's New Territories is a vast nature reserve covering rugged hills, forests, streams, and coastline. Designated in 1978, it offers numerous hiking trails of varying difficulty levels, allowing visitors to explore the scenic beauty of Hong Kong's countryside including High Island Reservoir, High Island, Pak Tam Au, Sheung Yiu, Tai Long Wan, and Wong Shek Pier.
Various buses and green minibuses run out to the area.
Tamar Park (添馬公園)
Tamar Park is a waterfront public park located in the Admiralty district. Situated near the Central Government Complex and the Legislative Council Complex, Tamar Park offers a serene green space amidst the concrete and highrise buildings. The park occupies an area of approximately 4.3 hectares and is situated along the harbor front of Hong Kong Island. It is part of the larger Tamar Development Project, which includes various government buildings and facilities. The park features a modern and minimalist design, with an open layout that maximizes the waterfront views.
The park boasts well-manicured lawns, trees, and gardens as well as shaded seating areas, benches, and picnic spots, allowing visitors to relax and enjoy the surroundings. There is also a large event lawn that hosts various activities, concerts, and cultural events throughout the year. In addition, the space has several art sculptures and installations that add to its aesthetic appeal. One notable artwork is the "A Drop of Water" sculpture by Chinese artist Chen Zhen, which symbolizes the harmony between water and land.
The park offers a range of outdoor amenities and facilities. There are basketball courts, a skateboard park, and a multipurpose sports ground where visitors can engage in various recreational activities. The open spaces also provide opportunities for yoga, tai chi, and other outdoor exercises.
Tamar Park is easily accessible by public transportation, with Admiralty MTR Station located nearby. It is also within walking distance of the Peak Tram Lower Terminus.
Eastern District Cultural Square
The Eastern District Cultural Square, aka Eastern District Promenade, is a public space located in the Eastern District of Hong Kong. It is located near the Sai Wan Ho MTR Station and adjacent to the Sai Wan Ho Ferry Pier.
The Cultural Square is a landscaped promenade that offers stunning views of Victoria Harbour and the surrounding skyline. It features open spaces, paved walkways, and seating areas where visitors can relax and enjoy the waterfront atmosphere.
The design incorporates greenery, sculptures, and public art installations, adding to its aesthetic appeal.
The Eastern District Cultural Square is often utilized for cultural activities, events, and performances. It serves as a venue for concerts, outdoor exhibitions, art displays, and community gatherings. Various festivals and celebrations are also organized at the square throughout the year.
The promenade offers convenient access to the waterfront, providing a pleasant space for leisure activities. There are also designated areas for fishing.
Nearby attractions include the Sai Wan Ho Harbor Park and the Shau Kei Wan Main Street East Market.
Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark (香港聯合國教科文組織世界地質公園)
Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark, aka Hong Kong National Geopark, is a geopark located in the northeastern part of Hong Kong. It was inaugurated in 2009 and became a member of the UNESCO Global Geoparks Network in 2011. The geopark covers an area of approximately 50 square kilometers and consists of two main regions: the Sai Kung Volcanic Rock Region and the Northeast New Territories Sedimentary Rock Region. Part of the Geopark overlaps with Sai Kung East Country Park (see above).
Sai Kung Volcanic Rock Region features the world-class hexagonal volcanic rock columns that were formed by volcanic activity approximately 140 million years ago. The region includes several sites of interest, such as High Island which is home to the High Island Reservoir and spectacular rock formations, including the famous hexagonal columns.
Sharp Island, known for its distinctive tombolo, a natural sand levee that connects the island to a smaller islet during low tide. Ninepin Group is a group of islands featuring impressive hexagonal columnar joints and sea cliffs.
Northeast New Territories Sedimentary Rock Region showcases sedimentary rocks formed over 400 million years ago, displaying the geological history of Hong Kong. Sites of interest in this region include Double Haven a picturesque harbor with unique red sedimentary rock formations and calm waters, ideal for exploring by boat and Tolo Channel a narrow channel featuring towering sea cliffs and various geological formations, such as the Tung Ping Chau Formation.
Port Island and Ma Shi Chau - these islands feature sedimentary rock formations, such as mudstone and siltstone, and provide opportunities for hiking and appreciating the geological landscape.
Hong Kong UNESCO Global Geopark offers guided tours, educational programs, and various outdoor activities to help visitors learn about the geology, ecology, and culture of the area. There are also several visitor centers, including the Lions Nature Education Centre and the Hong Kong Global Geopark Volcano Discovery Centre, providing interactive exhibits and information about the region's geology and biodiversity.
Clearwater Bay Country Park (清水灣郊野公園)
Clearwater Bay Country Park is a large park located in the eastern part of the New Territories in Hong Kong. It covers an area of about 6.5 square kilometers and is known for its beautiful scenery and natural attractions. The park has a diverse range of landscapes, including hills, woodlands, streams, and beaches.
One of the main attractions of the park is the Clearwater Bay Beach, which is a popular spot for swimming and sunbathing. The beach is also a great place for water sports such as windsurfing, kayaking, and paddleboarding.
There are several hiking trails in Clearwater Bay Country Park that offer stunning views of the surrounding countryside. The most popular trail is the High Junk Peak Country Trail, which takes you to the summit of High Junk Peak, offering panoramic views of the coastline and the surrounding islands.
The park has several picnic areas where visitors can relax and enjoy the natural surroundings. There are also barbecue pits available for use, but these must be booked in advance.
Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park
A 10-minute walk from Sheung Wan Station in Sheung Wan is the waterfront Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park. Initially opened in 1995 the park has a statue of the great man along with various sports facilities in the Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park Sports Centre.
The urban park has various fountains and sculptures, a football pitch with artificial turf, jogging track, lawn and basketball courts. The Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park Sports Centre has a gym, squash courts, table tennis rooms and a dance studio. The Sun Yat Sen Memorial Park Swimming Pool offers a 50 meter competition pool. The Western Harbour Crossing entrance is clearly visible from the park.
Lamma Island Family Walk
Lamma Island Family Walk on Lamma Island is known for its laid-back atmosphere and beautiful hiking trails. The Family Walk from Sok Kwu Wan to Yung Shue Wan is a popular route that takes visitors through picturesque landscapes, beaches, and quaint villages.
