Located directly south of Central and Wanchai on the southern shore of Hong Kong Island, Repulse Bay, along with nearby Deep Water Bay, is a relaxing break from the hustle and bustle of the northern coast.
Easily reached by bus from Central or Stanley to the east, Repulse Bay does get busy at weekends but weekdays, especially in spring, tend to be uncrowded.
Repulse Bay is nestled in a sheltered bay surrounded by lush hills, providing a tranquil and scenic environment. The crescent-shaped sandy beach stretches about 850 meters and is one of the most popular beaches in Hong Kong. The quirky Kwun Yam Shrine at the south eastern end of the beach is dedicated to Tin Hau and Guan Yin - Buddhist goddesses of mercy and protectors of seafarers. The temple is full of gaudy statues and mosaics put up in the 1970s. The Longevity Bridge, just outside the temple, is believed to add three years to the lives of those who walk it.
