Sun Yat Sen Memorial House, Macau 澳門國父紀念館, 澳门
Sun Yat Sen Memorial House is a small but historically significant museum dedicated to the life of Sun Yat-sen, widely known as the "Father of Modern China." Located in the São Lázaro district of Macau, the house preserves the memory of Sun's revolutionary activities and his family's life in the city. Visiting it offers insight into both Chinese political history and Macau's multicultural architectural heritage.
History
The house was originally built in 1912 as a residence for Sun Yat-sen's first wife, Lu Muzhen. She moved there in 1913 with their children and lived in Macau for about forty years until her death in 1952.
Although Sun Yat-sen himself did not live there permanently, the house served as an important base during his visits to Macau and nearby Hong Kong. The house symbolizes the city's role in his revolutionary network. Indeed, Macau acted as a starting point for many of his international journeys and activities connected to the Chinese republican movement.
Architecture and Design
The memorial house is notable for its eclectic architecture, reflecting the cultural mix typical of Macau at the time. The house is three-storey structure surrounded by a courtyard and garden. The faux-Moorish exterior has pointed arches and decorative verandas. Inside is a collection of period furnishings and decorative plasterwork imitating stone textures, a style used in Western buildings in China during the early 20th century. This architectural blend illustrates the influence of European design during Macau's Portuguese colonial era.
Exhibits
On display are historical photographs and documents related to the 1911 revolution as well as personal belongings, letters, and books connected to Sun Yat-sen, his life and beliefs.
Visitors can stroll the period rooms, such as bedrooms and living areas used by his family and see artifacts and newspapers documenting the fall of the Qing dynasty. The bronze statue of Sun Yat-sen in the courtyard was cast in the 1930s.

The house is open between 10 am and 5 pm (closed Tuesday).
The following buses 2, 2A, 4, 9, 9A, 12, 18, 18A, 19, 22, 25 and 25B also all stop close to the house at Jardim Da Vitória.
From Senado Square and the UNESCO-listed Historic Centre of Macau the house is about 20 minutes on foot. Other attractions in the area include Guia Fortress and Lighthouse, the Tap Seac Gallery, Lou Lim Ioc Garden, The House of Macao Literature, Jao Tsung-I Academy Macau and Macau Tea Culture Museum.

Tip: A cheap / fast way to get from Beijing to Macau is to fly from Beijing to Shenzhen and then take a coach to Hong Kong. The flight from Beijing to Shenzhen is considered domestic and therefore much cheaper compared with flying to Hong Kong direct. - Buses and taxis are the major modes of public transport in Macau. Pedicabs are also available for sightseeing. Macau drives on the right, like the rest of China, except Hong Kong.
- Visas: most passport holders of Western countries receive a free 30 or 90-day visa on arrival. To re-enter China requires a multiple entry Chinese visa, or a valid single/double entry visa.
