Qianmen Street 前门大街

Emerging as one of the hottest tourist destinations in Beijing is Qianmen Street which has been revamped as a modern tourist spot. The area was renovated in time for the Beijing Olympics and retains an air of modernity blended in with old style traditions and Chinese culture.
The bustling street is populated by buildings whose designs and layout still resemble those found in the late Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1911).
Qianmen Street is also known as "Dashilan" shopping street and is one of the oldest and most well-known shopping districts in Beijing.
History
Its history harks back hundreds of years yet the essential feel of the area remains the same, namely comfortable and relaxed. It is perfect for both Beijing residents and tourists to spend hours walking through as the street extends in all directions and many emerging businesses and designers have made their home in this area.

Archery Tower
The start of the street, which is south of Tiananmen Square, is clearly marked by the Archery Tower of Qianmen to the north. Visitors can then slowly walk down the street and take in the sights and sounds.
There are many different types of shops which sell a variety of well-known Chinese brands. In addition there is a the huge choice of different cuisines on offer.

Sightseeing Trolley
For those who enjoy walking, the street is roughly 840 meters in length and there are many side streets which branch off with even more souvenir and cultural venues to explore. For those who do not want to walk then they can take the Sightseeing Trolley on Qianmen Street which runs from the north to the south end and back again.
For visitors who want to stay in close proximity to the street, the new Muji Hotel is located just off the main thoroughfare. The hotel is chic and modern in design and has the same cool and spacious feel that someone would expect to find in a Muji store.
The street is quieter during the week though on the weekends can be very crowded as throngs of local residents and tourists come to stroll, shop and eat.

Accommodation
Besides the Muji Hotel other places to stay nearby include the Hotel Beijing Hyde, housed in a 100-year old hutong courtyard, the upmarket Beijing Taishan Hotel and for those on a tight budget, the impressively-named Three Legged Frog Hostel or Leo Hostel.
