Victoria Harbour "Barrier Free" Walkway 維多利亞港
Hong Kong's first "barrier free" waterfront zone has opened around the Victoria Harbour area and stretches from Causeway Bay all the way down to Central near the Star Ferry.
A further section extends from Western Wholesale Food Market at Shek Tong Tsui to the Convention & Exhibition Centre in Wan Chai.
The zone is a project that will extend further and enhance public spaces in Hong Kong.
Eventually a much longer connected promenade will emerge in which people can both walk and cycle.
The pedestrian zone is part of an initiative to help allow more access to greater areas of space around Hong Kong harbour, and to use space wisely. The new zone is filled with iconic Hong Kong images depicted on a series of cartoons.
Wan Chai Promenade Extension
In April 2021, a new stretch of Wan Chai Promenade opened between Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre and Wan Chai Pier. The section is very pet-friendly with pets welcome on a leash and a Pet Garden planned to open later. Here pets will be able to wander freely. The neon-lit signs and (below) explain how the coast here has changed over the years due to reclamation.
Wan Chai Access
Visitors can access the walkway from various points in Wan Chai including Golden Bauhinia Square, Wan Chai Ferry Pier, the Bus Terminus, and Canal Road.
