The green Star Ferry sailing between the Clock Tower in Tsim Sha Tsui and Central on Hong Hong Island is one of the city's perennial symbols.

Star Ferry History

The Star Ferry has its roots in the 1880s when an enterprising Parsee cook, Dorabjee Nowrojee Mithaiwala, began a boat service plying the waters of Victoria Harbour. His thriving business was bought up by British businessman Sir Catchick Paul Chater and the Star Ferry Company was born in 1898.

Presently the Star Ferry fleet of 12 twin-deck boats operates two franchised ferry routes between Tsim Sha Tsui and Central, and Tsim Sha Tsui and Wanchai, plus two licensed ferry routes, between Hung Hom and Central and Hung Hom and Wanchai.

Hung Hom-Central & Hung Hom-Wanchai

The Hung Hom-Central and Hung Hom-Wanchai Star Ferry operates frequently from approx. 7 am-8 pm on weekdays and 7 am-7 pm at weekends and public holidays. The single adult fare is HK$6; children aged 3-12 HK$3; seniors over 65 travel free. Bicycles are HK$12.

Wanchai-Tsim Sha Tsui & Central-Tsim Sha Tsui

The Wanchai-Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry operates frequently from approx. 7.20 am-10.50 pm on weekdays and 7.30 am-10.50 pm at weekends and public holidays. The single adult fare is HK$2.20; children aged 3-12 HK$1.30; seniors over 65 travel free.

The Central-Tsim Sha Tsui Star Ferry operates frequently from approx. 6.30 am-11.30 pm on weekdays, weekends and public holidays. The upper deck single adult fare is HK$2.20; children aged 3-12 HK$1.30; lower deck single adult fare is HK$1.70; children aged 3-12 HK$1.20; seniors over 65 travel free.

The Octopus Card can be used on all Star Ferry routes.

There is also a Star Ferry Tour on the recreated 1920s "Shining Star" which takes in Tsim Sha Tsui, Central, Wanchai and Hung Hom and then back to Tsim Sha Tsui. The cost for a day ride is currently HK$50 and the spectacular night ride HK$100. Star Ferry Tour Boats run from 11 am-9 pm.
