Hong Kong has a separate currency from mainland China's RMB (Yuan) and Yuan cannot, on the whole, be used in Hong Kong.
The Hong Kong Dollar is pegged to the US Dollar.
Foreign currency and travellers cheques can be changed at Hong Kong International Airport, banks (though they may levy a fee), licensed moneychangers, such as Chequepoint (there are a number on Nathan Road) and large hotels also offer foreign exchange services.
The HKD is divided into 100 cents. Bank notes come in denominations of $10, $20, $50, $100, $500 and $1000 (rare) and coins in denominations of 10c, 20c, 50c, $1, $2, $5, and $10.
Be careful of forgeries and check your notes carefully when accepting change in shops.
