The mascot of the Shanghai Expo was Haibao (海宝). Meaning "treasure of the sea," this blue, humanoid creature was designed based on the Chinese character for "person" (人) to represent the Expo's human-centric theme of "Better City, Better Life" and was widely recognized for its cheerful expression and oceanic color.
