Chinese food & cuisine has some famous dishes, maybe none more so than Peking Duck, here being prepared.

Preparing Peking Duck at home is a labor of love that rewards you with one of the most iconic dishes in Chinese cuisine. The process starts by cleaning and drying a whole duck thoroughly, then pumping air between the skin and meat to separate them - this crucial step ensures ultra-crispy skin. Next, the duck is glazed with a sweet maltose syrup and hung to air-dry, ideally overnight, which allows the skin to tighten and develop a glossy finish. Roasting can be done in a traditional wood-fired oven, but a home oven works too - the key is to roast the duck until the skin is deep golden and crackling. Once it's ready, the duck is carved tableside, with thin slices of crispy skin and tender meat served alongside delicate Mandarin pancakes, hoisin sauce, and julienned cucumbers and scallions. It's not a quick meal, but each step builds towards a perfect harmony of texture, flavor, and visual appeal that makes Peking Duck a show-stopping centerpiece.
