Kunming Lake is the central, 2.2-square-kilometer artificial lake within the Summer Palace in Beijing’s Haidian District. Created during the Qing Dynasty to mimic West Lake in Hangzhou, it forms the heart of the imperial garden, bordered by Longevity Hill to the north. It is a major scenic attraction known for boating in summer and ice skating in winter.
