Tai Qi, Beijing, China
Read a guide to Tai Chi (aka Tai Qi) an ancient form of Chinese exercise based on the natural movement of animals and birds. Tai Chi (Taiji) is a traditional Chinese martial art, often described as "meditation in motion" due to its slow, flowing, and graceful movements. Rooted in Daoist and Confucian philosophies of yin and yang, it combines self-defense with, primarily, mental and physical health benefits, including increased balance, flexibility, and reduced stress. It involves choreographed, slow-motion sequences ("forms" or taolu) that can be practiced by all ages. It often includes fast, explosive movements, pushing hands, and weapon training for advanced practitioners.
