Yuyuantan Park is a huge open space west of Tiananmen Square at the southern end of the Sanlihe Road. Visitors can catch a canal boat here from near the park's south gate to the Summer Palace. The park is centered around the Yuyuantan Lake and there is much to enjoy here, especially for children, with an aquatic park, bicycle hire and a variety of child-friendly amusements.
Spring is one of the best times to visit or in summer to cool off from the August heat. The park has some beautiful cherry and magnolia blossoms and Yuyuantan Park hosts an annual cherry blossom festival in April to show off the over 2,000 trees of different types on its 136 ha grounds, many of the trees are gifts from Japan when the two countries re-opened diplomatic relations in the 1970s. ![]() ![]() Yuyuantan Park has no buildings left from its past history but a number of pavilions have been rebuilt and add a traditional back-drop to the spring blossoms. Those who enjoy being on the water can also hire a boat to cruise the 60 ha-lake - a popular pastime for Beijing courting couples. Access - Getting to Yuyuantan Park Yuyuantan Park is open daily 6am-10.30pm. The nearest Subway Station is Junshibowuguan near the Military Museum on the East-West Line. The park is then 500m to the north-west. Alternatively, bus numbers #13, #21, #37, #65, #114, #320, #717 and #727 run to the park.
